Rotterdam-Holland.com was registered in 2020. It is interesting how time flies. Dedicated to my amazing hometown. It is beautiful, lovely and inviting. The city I admire, love and respect. Why was it created in the first place? I live, work and play in the port city of The Netherlands.

Groningen

Groningen, the beating heart of northern Netherlands, is a city where history meets modern vibrancy. Renowned for its youthful atmosphere, thanks to its large student population, it’s a hub of innovation and culture. Stroll through charming streets lined with historic buildings, visit the iconic Martinitoren, or explore cutting-edge art at the Groninger Museum. Surrounded by stunning nature, including the Wadden Sea and Lauwersmeer National Park, Groningen is a perfect mix of urban charm and outdoor adventure.

Security

Additionally, security conditions can change over time due to various factors. You can contact the Rotterdam police department or visit their official website for any recent updates on safety and security in the city.

Harbor

Rotterdam is the home of so many harbors. Yes, apart from the port of Rotterdam. Some of them are large and very old. It is also the home of the new harbors. Constructions of more harbors are often taking place. The old harbors are some of the attractions of my hometown.

Parks

Meet me at the park in the South. Rotterdam's green side. I love it! Numerous parks and green spaces are the unique side of Rotterdam. The benches, streams, and trees. Lying down on the green grass is one of the most relaxing experiences visitors can enjoy. 

Ship

Another aspect of Rotterdam is the number of ships the port handles. The Port of Rotterdam is one of the largest and busiest ports globally. So it typically handles a large volume of maritime traffic. It is also the home of different vessels.

Delfshaven

Delfshaven isn't just a place; it's a living, breathing testament to Rotterdam's rich maritime heritage and its resilience in the face of time. Delfshaven exudes an unmistakable maritime charm that transports you to the city's nautical past.

Tower

The city has a dynamic architectural landscape with various buildings, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use towers. New developments and construction projects may have taken place since then.

Bridge

How many bridges are there in the port city of Rotterdam? As of 2016, Rotterdam, being the second-largest city in the Netherlands, is filled with canals and split in half by a river–and along with all of that water, it has 850 bridges for pedestrians and cyclists.

Housing

One of the ways to understand a city is through its housing industry. How are houses built in Rotterdam? I really admire the houses in Rotterdam. The way they are simply designed to accommodate the citizens of Rotterdam.

Visiting

It is one of the words that I like to associate with the city of Rotterdam. Visiting. However, I also like to ask another question with that word. Is it a place for visiting? People often ask another question with that word. 

Place

Rotterdam is a great place. As far as I am concerned. Is it for everyone? That is a good question. What if you are a visitor? That is also another question visitors must ask themselves. What if you are from outside Europe?

Tour

Whenever I walk around Rotterdam, especially downtown, I often see tourists. They are holding their cameras and phones. Taking pictures. Other times, they are with their tour guides. Touring the city attractions in my hometown. 

Travel

It is easy to travel to Rotterdam. You can travel easily from London by air, sea or car to Rotterdam. When you arrive in Rotterdam, you can also travel around the city easily. You can tour by bicycle, bus or tram.

Sustainability

Coming from someone who has worked in a sustainability company for years, I would say that Rotterdam is a city of sustainability. How do I know? That is a very fair question that requires a whole category of topics, posts and pages. 

Waste

I have worked in a sustainability company in Rotterdam before. That was many years ago. I learned a lot of lessons and skills about waste collection, management and distribution. We are decades ahead of so many major cities in sustainability.

Gentrification

In the Netherlands, gentrification has grown to be a big problem, especially in populous cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. The negative impact can be incredibly huge and visible. Forcing neighbors from cities to rural areas.

Transportation

I have been to other cities around the world. It was a culture shock. Moving around is almost impossible. Not in my hometown. The transportation system is good. It is one of the reasons why it is called a smart city.

Why do I like Bothastraat? Because of its uniqueness in Rotterdam South. It is unique for its location in the Afrikaanderwijk neighborhood, which has a rich history and diverse cultural makeup. The buildings of Bothastraat are also unique.

Another aspect of Rotterdam is the international airport. How efficient is the airport? It is one of the topics that we are going to examine. Can you fly from Rotterdam The Hague Airport to London, New York or Dubai? 

Chinese

Can you find the influence of China in Rotterdam? Chinese culture is alive and well here in the city of Rotterdam. The people. The shops, products and food. You can find all of them in my hometown of Rotterdam.

When I look around my neighborhood in the south of Rotterdam, I see hard working people raising their families. The topic of living in a family friendly city or country is an interesting one to cover.

Simply put, what is egalitarianism? It’s the backbone of equality. Egalitarians contend that everyone should be accorded the same privileges, be accorded the same treatment, or be accorded some other form of equality.

Is the Netherlands a refuge? If you are fleeing a conflict in your homeland, can you find refuge here in the Netherlands? Will you be accepted as a refugee? In this category, I look at the role of The Netherlands when it comes to accepting refugees.

From time to time, I love eating out. I go to different restaurants in my hometown of Rotterdam. The Chinese restaurants are my favorites. I am going to cover the topic of eating out. And take out is fun! Plus, ordering dishes online.

Another interesting topic that I would like to cover is food. Growing and exporting food within and outside the Netherlands. Yes, the Netherlands is a farming country. I think farming and food are interesting and fascinating industries.

Marathon

The really cool thing about marathons in Rotterdam is the unique people that come into my hometown every year. The organizations that put the events together. It is an amazing experience and memorable event. I really love having the runners in my city.

Yacht

Another beautiful part of my hometown of Rotterdam and home country, The Netherlands. Yachts. They are almost everywhere on the canals. It is an interesting topic to cover from time to time.

Supermarket

Going to the supermarkets, spending money and shopping for essential items is an everyday experience in the port city of Rotterdam. The Netherlands has some of the best supermarkets, effective and efficient in the world.

Relocation

Others living in The Hague and Amsterdam would completely disagree with me about relocation to Rotterdam. And I understand, totally. What if you are a business owner, entrepreneur or a student or an investor looking for better investment returns.

Racism

Is there racism in Rotterdam? That is one of the questions that we have been asking. As uncomfortable as it feels, it is part of the culture of Rotterdam. It is not exciting, but necessary to discuss, write about and publish.

Discrimination

The city of Rotterdam is not free from discrimination. Another vitally important topic to all humanity that I would like to cover. I see a lot of discrimination everyday happening between men and women. Young and old. White and black. Muslims and Christians.

Since we have all now become technologically advanced junkies, I am going to cover the power,  and advancement of technology in Rotterdam and around The Netherlands. There are some interesting technology companies and institutions here in Holland.

Another exciting topic that I am going to cover is construction. The technology and the ideas behind them. Rotterdam is still being constructed everyday. I like to say that Rotterdam is always under construction.

Another aspect of Rotterdam is the power and energy of attraction that my city exudes. What attracts people to Rotterdam? Where are some of the attractive places to explore? No, I am not talking about only the tourist attractions.

Banking is one of the most important elements of the Dutch economy. Rotterdam is one of the financially viable cities in Europe. Even though it is a port city. Is banking in Rotterdam safe, secure and efficient for everyone?

Building

How about the buildings in Rotterdam? They are some of the most modern and historic buildings in the world. Each and every time I move around my hometown, I see an amazing building. 

Europe

One of the most powerful continents. Indeed, also one of the most interesting, richest and well-developed in the whole world. And guess what? It is the home of The Netherlands. And my home town of Rotterdam is located in the Western part of Europe.

Government

Love them? So do I. Like to visit them? If so, amazing. We are on the same page. Rotterdam houses some of the best Museums. No, they are not imported ideas into my home town like other cities. We built them. They have been here Centuries.

Homelessness

Rotterdam has the same problem just like most major modern cities around the world. Homelessness. It’s one of the problems that I sometimes see in my hometown. It is a major social issue not only for Rotterdam, but The Netherlands.

Museums

When you take the time to visit and study 10 countries and their governments around the world, you begin to realize that the Dutch Government is way ahead of many of them. No modern and current leadership or government is perfect. Don’t get me wrong.

Population

I often say that even though the Netherlands is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. When I am walking around my city, I don’t often see so many people packed in one place. I don’t feel like it is overpopulated. Unless I go to the supermarket, malls or the street markets.

Sharing

I love Rotterdam. Practically. I would like to say that I grew up in Rotterdam South. Because? I have spent almost half of my life here. I have seen a lot in Rotterdam. I wanted to share what I see daily.

Learning

Learned a lot from Rotterdam. This city is full of lessons. I would like to share what I learn everyday. Over the years, I have heard a lot in Rotterdam. I wanted to share what I hear everyday.

Experience

When I walk around the port City of Rotterdam., I experience so much through my interactions. I feel a lot every single day in Rotterdam. I wanted to share what I experience.

People

How about the people of Rotterdam? I love the people in my hometown. They are some of the friendliest people in Europe. Wrong. In my opinion, I would like to think that we are the friendliest in the world.  

Infrastructure

Would love to share them. Not only the buildings around my hometown but the infrastructure. Rotterdam has some of the most interesting infrastructures in the Netherlands.

Energy

Every city has its own energy, rhythm and flow. The energy of Rotterdam is unique. It has a very different rhythm and an extra ordinary flow. You can feel it as you move around my hometown.

Culture

Rotterdam is a city of culture. That is one of the qualities that I love about my hometown. There are different social groups. You can see people from different backgrounds. How about different religions?

Colour

I have a friend who has never been to Rotterdam before. He lives in a different country on a different continent. He asked me what Rotterdam is like and I told him that it is a place of different colours.

Romance

How about romance? Is Rotterdam a romantic place? It is a place where people can come with their loved ones and have romantic experiences. As far as I am concerned, it is a place of romance just like London and Paris.

Thinking

Not only thinking inside the galleries, theaters and museums. The way of thinking in Rotterdam is slightly different. Is the mentality different than other cities in The Netherlands like Amsterdam or The Hague?

Streets

How about the streets of Rotterdam? They are part of the networks and connections of the city. One of my favorites parts of this amazing city are the streets. They are narrow, well planned, constructed and consistently maintained. 

Politics

Oh yeah! Tell me about it. You cannot escape it. How can you expect to live and work in a city like Rotterdam without getting involved in politics? During the elections in The Netherlands, the energy here is pretty high.

Politicians

I do have a love and hate relationship with politics. And the politics in Rotterdam is not any different than most cities around Europe. You have the politics and you have the politicians who drive the policies in Rotterdam.

Crime

Like most big cities around the world, Rotterdam has to combat crime every single day. Because the Netherlands is a police state, Rotterdam automatically is a police city. As you walk through the city, you notice the presence of police officers.

Unpleasant

How about the tings that I don’t like about Rotterdam? Every city has the power to present its citizens with the pleasant and the unpleasant. I am going to be sharing experiences and things that are not pleasant about Rotterdam.

Pleasant

That is part of life. Of course, we have the pleasant places and experiences in Rotterdam. And we also have the unpleasant social issues, experiences and places just like every single city on the face of the planet.

Positive

How about the things, people and experiences that I find intriguing in Rotterdam? Fascinating Wonderful. Amazing. They are all inside the Port City of Rotterdam. The Netherlands.

Holland

Rotterdam is my hometown. I love Rotterdam. And I care about the people. It is part of Holland. The Netherlands. There are so many faces to Rotterdam. I was thinking about another aspect of Rotterdam.

Bicycles

Love them? No? I do. Why? I am a citizen of Rotterdam. It is another city of cycling in the Netherlands. Bicycles and their paths are part of the transportation system in the city of Rotterdam.

Footpath

Talking about bicycle path. When I am walking through my hometown in Rotterdam, I see different paths. Not only for bicycles but also for humans. Footpath is part of the transportation system.

Buses

Considering climate change. Do you necessarily have to own a car in Rotterdam? I mean, in order for you to move around freely. No, it is not necessary. There public buses. They are frequently moving.

Skyline

Rotterdam has transformed in the last 20 years. Each and everytime I look out of my windows I am fascinated by the skyline of Rotterdam. It is hard to recognize my neighborhood. However, I am grateful for the developments and changes.

Taxi

If you don’t want to own a car, you don’t move around often, you can use Rotterdam taxi. They are efficient, affordable and driven by professionally trained drivers. Taxi service is part of the transportation system.

Tram

Provided by Rotterdam Electric Tram. It is another reason why I love my hometown. We have been powering trams in Rotterdam for a long time. The idea of powering cars with electric is not new.

Covid-19

The people of Rotterdam are still learning how to live with Covid-19. The adjustment has not been easy for any of us at all.  It has also taught us a lot of lessons. The cases are still fluctuating in the Netherlands.

Vaccination

Another aspect of the Dutch, Rotterdam and The Netherlands health system that we are going to explore is vaccination. Every year, I receive a notification from my doctor. Asking me if I would like to be vaccinated against the winter season flu.

Seaport

It is one of the aspects of Rotterdam that I really love and enjoy. The fact that Europoort (Dutch Spelling) is situated in Rotterdam makes it really exciting. Over the years I have had the opportunity to explore many parts of the seaport.
