Discrimination In The Netherlands

This is my first post about discrimination In The Netherlands. It is a very sensitive subject. Most of us don’t want to face it. Even though we all know it really exists. We see it every single day happening right in front of us. We don’t want to talk about it. We would rather ignore it. And hope that it goes away. Unfortunately,  discrimination does not go away. It is here to stay. Because it is STILL happening. Right NOW!.

Discrimination

What is discrimination?

Discrimination is the unequal treatment and discrimination of people on the basis of characteristics that do not matter in a situation. You can think of origin, gender, skin colour, sexual preference, age, religion, disability or chronic illness. For example, if someone is rejected for a job as a truck driver because he does not have a driver's license, then that is completely justified. Having a driver's license is necessary for the job and does not fall under any of the listed characteristics. Suppose the person is not hired because he or she is female, black, Muslim or gay. Then there is discrimination.
