Last week. I published a post about how he was shot in Amsterdam. And today, when I read about his death on MSN published by ANP.nl, I had to share it here with my readers.

"AMSTERDAM (ANP) - Crime reporter Peter R. de Vries passed away on Thursday. Let his son know. He was 64 years old and for decades was regarded as a fearless icon of Dutch crime journalism."

"On Tuesday evening, July 6, De Vries was shot in the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, in the center of Amsterdam. After the broadcast of RTL Boulevard, where he was present as an expert, he walked to his car and was attacked there. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries."

"Police arrested three suspects on Tuesday evening. Two of them were stopped on the A4 near Leidschendam. They are suspected of direct involvement. It concerns a 35-year-old Pole from Maurik in Gelderland and a 21-year-old man from Rotterdam. The latter is believed to have been the shooter, the Pole is said to have driven the getaway car. The police carried out house searches in Maurik, Tiel and Rotterdam and seized data carriers and ammunition."

The above quoted article was originally written and published in Dutch on MSN.com by ANP.nl. I found the experience of reading about Peter R. De Vries passing really sad.

It is indeed a great loss to everyone in the port city of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands. And as a matter of fact, the rest of the world has lost a great international crime reporter.

I decided to translate it into English and publish it here with my English readers from around the world.
